Shogam Publications

Shogam Publications was established in 2008 under the direction of Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX, an esteemed teacher and lineage holder in the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.

“I launched Shogam Publications because I was feeling quite dissatisfied with contemporary Buddhist books. They usually fall into one of two categories. They are either too shallow, hardly qualifying as Buddhist books, more so being pop psychology or pulp psychology, or they are weighty and have some substance, but are written in a way that is not accessible to most people. So it is my hope that the books that we bring out will fill that gap.”

– Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX, President and Founder.

Shogam is committed to producing high quality books on Buddhism and related fields. We feel that there is a real need for books that go into a subject matter in sufficient depth and yet are accessible to a general readership.

Our authors are highly trained in the academic world or are people with intensive meditational training, or both. The authors who would be contributing to Shogam are people from both Asia and various parts of the Western world.

The books will be published under three distinct headings:

Buddhism in the West

Theory and Practice

Buddhist Classics and Translations

Buddhism in the West:

This series carries books that focus on the interface between Buddhist philosophy and Western disciplines such as philosophy, theology, psychology and cultural theories. Presently we have two books in this series:

Dr Robert Miller’s Buddhist Existentialism

Padmasiri de Silva’s Buddhist and Freudian Psychology

Buddhist Theory and Practice:

This series will carry books that emphasize the importance of the integration of Buddhist Philosophy with Buddhist practices. The books in this series will be authored by contemporary Buddhist teachers presenting Buddhism in a modern context.

Buddhist Classics and Translations:

This series will carry translations of classic Buddhist texts done in a manner which is accurate and faithful to the original text yet accessible to people who are not familiar with oriental languages.

In addition Shogam plans to release DVDs and audio teachings. Presently Shogam is working on a DVD about the life of its founder Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX.
